A NEW ERA FOR US
I’m a firm believer that progress is not possible without change. When I created Beyond the Legacy (BTL) on August 21, 2017, it was initially a platform for professional athletes to share their stories with the world. I’m blessed to have over 21 years of trusted relationships with countless NBA veterans and their families. It was an honor to create these human interest stories for these remarkable individuals. Storytelling and writing are two of my many passions. One of the most fulfilling things for me as a writer is having a trusted conversation with the featured individual and turning it into an amazing story. This creation’s pinnacle is hearing back from the spotlighted individual about all the positive phone calls, text messages, and social media comments they received after the story is posted.
Today, BTL enters a new era with the relaunch of our website, the inception of the official Beyond the Legacy Podcast, and introduction of our consulting services.
Why Now?
Over the months and years, BTL grew beyond storytelling into a positive community that includes family, friends, and new followers from all around the world. The year 2020 taught us a lot about ourselves and introduced a new normal, new challenges, new movements, a new transition, and made us discover a new manifestation of gratitude. This gratitude was not only for what was going on in our everyday lives but more so for the beautiful human beings that surround us.
The year 2021 is an opportunity for new beginnings, transformations, and centering our energy around a higher purpose. We can talk about resolutions all we want, but the reality is that we don’t get what we wish for; we get what we work for.
The new year starts with the positive actions we decide to take. We have social responsibility to be the change we want to see in our lives, our community, and this world. When people ask the question, “Why now?” I tell them that life is about timing, and everything I have nurtured leading up to this relaunch of the website is the reason why the time is now. My LLC, the brand, and the BTL community have evolved so much since 2017. That transformation has provided clarity around the new conversations, storytelling, partnerships, consulting, and the passion projects I want to create and align my continued legacy with.
What’s New?
Storytelling, Inspiration, Conversations, and Consulting
Storytelling
I am thrilled to kick off 2021 with new human interest stories featuring community changers, small business owners, essential workers, nonprofit foundations, athletes, business professionals, and unique individuals that will inspire the BTL Community with their words of wisdom and perspectives.
Inspiration
We can always use an extra dose of positivity and uplifting words of encouragement in our lives. In addition to my human interest stories, I love sharing personal reflections, words of wisdom, and positive quotes. Over the last few months, I’ve received a lot of private and public feedback on the reflections I shared on social media. The positive response has reinforced the idea that my thoughts and words can impact others. That means a lot to me because you never know who ends up reading your content and the butterfly effect you can create with your words and thoughts.
Conversations
I am looking forward to sitting down with the guests I have lined up for the official Beyond the Legacy Podcast. The viewers will get to know more about me as I have conversations with athletes, family and friends that have known me personally for double digits years. We will dive into topics like mental health, raising a child with special needs, conversations around higher education, overcoming adversity, inspirational and emotional personal stories, and many other organic topics you’ll have to tune in to see. I want to create natural conversations around relatable themes with the people I’m grateful for. You never know who’s watching. Some of the podcasts I listen to share these inspirational testimonials from listeners that thanked them for the topic and themes they touched on. The conversation alone may be the difference between helping someone that’s going through some personal struggles and reminding them they are not alone. I’m excited to be entering this podcast space in 2021.
Consulting
I tell people all the time, “Do what you love and love what you do.” In the fall of 2020 I walked away from the corporate world and decided to bet on myself and go into consulting under my LLC, Beyond the Legacy. I’ve lived in the corporate space for 25+ years of my life. I’ve grown professionally, fostered so many valuable relationships, and have learned so much about the politics and culture of small businesses, nonprofits, and large corporations. One of the many lessons we all took away from 2020 was that tomorrow is never promised. When I reflect on the relationships and trust I established over the years, the timing couldn’t be better to work with the professional athletes, nonprofits, and passion projects that fuel my soul. Your professional and personal happiness reaches new heights when you are able to work on the things you love, and work with the people that believe in, and bring the best out of, you. In 2021, the power of collaboration and partnerships will be in full effect. To learn more check out the BTL Consulting Page.
Why am I Grateful?
As I enter this new era for Beyond the Legacy, I’m genuinely grateful to be able to take this professional leap of faith and center my energy around the things I’m passionate about. It means the world to me to have a loyal community that believes in me and BTL. To reach new heights, you have to be willing to put pride aside and trust the right professional experts to help make your vision a reality. While I’ve lived in the digital technology space for double-digit years, I can’t claim to be an expert in everything. That is why I believe in collaboration with the right professional partner to execute on a shared vision.
I want to share my gratitude to iammai CREATIVE for taking me on as a client to transform, elevate, and usher in Beyond the Legacy into this new exciting era. There’s something to be said about having an outside professional partner with experience in social media strategy, branding, market research, industry experience, UX & design, and much more. You want to have partners that respect the passion you have for your business but aren't afraid to challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone and reimagine this journey together. Thank you to the owner, Mia Ross, and Santierra Hutson, for going “all in” with me as a preferred client. It means a lot to me when you can respect the mission, the morals, and ethics of an agency owner, and in return, they share the same gratitude and admiration for what I stand for and everything BTL embodies.
What Happens Next?
While some foundational things will remain the same, there are quite a few changes the BTL Community will notice right away with the website redesign and relaunch. I look forward to growing this positive community between the website and the social channels and initiating more conversations and engagement. I want Beyond the Legacy to be a place where positivity, community, and inspiration meets storytelling and genuine conversations. On behalf of Beyond the Legacy, I would like to thank you for joining us on this exciting new journey. We are just getting started, and there will be more surprises to come in 2021
